Treatment of Spondylosis and Spondylolisthesis at New Beginning Physical Therapy

Posted on July 3, 2017 0

The difference between spondylosis and spondylolisthesis is that the former refers to a medical condition in which there is a defect in a section of the spine called the pars interarticularis. On the other hand, Spondylolisthesis is a medical condition in which the pars interarticularis defect can be on any part of the spine that is; it can be unilateral which means only one side of the spine or bilateral meaning on both sides. The most common symptoms for a patient suffering from either spondylosis or spondylolisthesis are experiencing leg pain or back pain which limits the movements of the patient. Spondylosis in most cases leads to the development of spondylolisthesis. The cause of spondylosis has yet to be discovered. The most common belief shared by most physicians is that repetitive trauma could act as the cause or a significant factor to the development of the condition.

Symptoms of spondylolisthesis include pain especially in the lower back and the leg, general weakness of the muscles, disturbances in the coordination as well as balance and also tense hamstrings. The more the symptoms worsen, the harder it will be for the patient to carry out their day to day normal activities such as simple walking. Undergoing physical therapy contributes significantly towards recovery from spondylolisthesis and spondylosis. Here at New Beginning Physical Therapy, we believe that all people are entitled to live a life free of pain and discomfort. We greatly believe in the welfare of our patients and thus provide the best medical services from certified physical therapists with vast knowledge and expertise.

Physical therapy at New Beginning Physical Therapy is guaranteed to strengthen your muscles that give support to the spine. We also specialize in providing education to our patients on how to keep their spine safe as well as avoiding further injuries in the future. Our physical therapists in Palm Desert CA provide our patients with two kinds of treatments: passive and active treatments. The role of taking part in passive treatment is to enable our patients to relax their body and not stress it further. Passive treatments are carried out initially since the body is still in the healing process. Passive treatments include alternating between cold and hot therapies, deep tissue massage as well as Ultrasound. Once the patient’s body is strong enough, the physical therapist in Palm Desert, CA begins to assign therapeutic exercises that help prevent a possible recurrence of spondylolisthesis pain.  In addition to that, our physical therapists at New Beginning Physical Therapy give primary education to all our patients on how to improve their flexibilities, their core stability in addition to their range of motion.

Each patient is assigned and treated individually with the same physical therapist. This individualism ensures consistent and creates a better understanding of the best exercise to carry out. A particular activity undertaken by a particular patient may not be suitable to another patient. Our physical therapists in Palm Desert, CA helps our patients learn how to correct their postures and learn healthy habits to enable them to carry out their daily activities. Not only do we offer the most effective treatment for treating both spondylosis and spondylolisthesis, but we also assure that all the treatments will be successful.
