This story is well told. A man worries for his wife’s life. He wonders if she’ll survive. She does, and thru therapy and a lot of hard work, she can walk, take care of her children, even walk on uneven playground. She’s not 100%, but she’s working on it. This article is a tribute to a family’s support and a stroke survivor’s hard work. Her goals are tied to her children and she practices things that are meaningful to her.
This is such an important part of therapy. The progress in the beginning is fast and it keeps people motivated. It becomes harder after the first few months, after the first year. Yet we know that people can continue to improve with the right mix of activities, practice and repetition. I give the example of losing weight. People are motivated at the start of a new program, especially as they see results. But it’s the constant repetition of good habits that accomplishes the end results. It’s the same during recovery from a stroke.
Congratulations to Kathy and Victor Giovenetti on their continued recovery. Thank you for sharing your story.
